History of Villa Daiquiri
Villa Daiquiri was built in the early 1980's as the residence for the granddaughter of the founder of the Bacardi liquor empire. It became the family's Costa Rican vacation compound. Being very security conscious due to the family's flight from Castro's Cuba, many interesting features were built into the Villa. The compound is an acre (4050 square M) in size with 200 ft (60 Meters) of beach frontage. It is enclosed on 3 sides with concrete walls and has a guardhouse. The house was constructed of 18" thick poured concrete walls and the 2nd floor was designed as a "safe room". An elaborate custom "jailhouse" door was installed as a barrier to kidnappers. A 2nd kitchen and food storage room were included to weather a sustained standoff. Designed with unheard of amenities of the day, including central AC and a dishwashers. Custom and hand painted imported tiles from Spain, Italy, and Mexico adorn the Villa. The unique half moon windows were constructed on-site. This was all done at a time when this was only one of two houses on Hermosa Beach and no roads existed. Bringing high end custom items from Europe to the middle of a jungle, was a feat in itself. The 40+ year old (almond) ceiling woodwork appears as if it was installed last week! Custom tiles in the kitchen were hand signed by the artist. The style of the house (and interesting bathrooms/lighting) is a combination art deco and 70's funk. Many exotic plants and flowers were planted onsite including the aromatic ingredient in Chanel #5. We have renovated the systems as necessary and strived to keep as much original as feasible. We believe the Bacardi's would be proud. Choose from six recently redecorated bedrooms, sleeping 15. Two with ocean view. Each room is unique with gold plated fixtures in bathrooms. Note the famous Bacardi Bat Logo in embedded tile which appears on every bottle of Bacardi Rum.
POOL
Big enough for 30+ people! 3' to 6' deep. Side shallow pool with a Bacchius fountain. Perhaps originally designed as a kiddie pool, but now used more often as a shallow lounging pool. The right depth with walls and wide ledge just perfect to keep cold beverage within arms grasp. Spill over waterfall with a swim shelf below. A small bridge over the deep end. Full pool bath w/shower. Two original Bacardi cement and tile tables with umbrellas.
